Puggles really took off as a popular dog breed after numerous celebrities like Jake Gyllenhaal and Julianna Moore bought puggles for their own homes.

It's no wonder that celebrities often choose puggles as a breed for their dog; puggles are among the smartest, best looking and affectionate of dog breeds!

But it's important to get a puggle not because celebrities do, but because the puggle is a good match for your own personality.

So if you want a dog that will crave your attention and match you wit for wit, then the puggle might be the perfect dog for you!

Cool Christmas Gifts for your Puggle

What could a puggle want besides your love and attention this Christmas?

Well, how about a nice new sweater for those cold winter months, for starters? And maybe one of those fake stockings filled with toys and treats? Any gift that enhances play time with your dog is one they're sure to appreciate.

Here are some suggestions:

A laser pointer. Your puggle will love chasing that light around. You can get some really cool ones now that have a green beam that is so strong, it will actually double as a pointer to constellations. That's right, you can point out stars with these things, no I'm not kidding.

Inflatable Remote control cars. Puggles will go wild trying to figure out what's going on when you drive a small remote control car around the living room. You and the fam will have a blast, and so will your dog! I recommend taking a little fabric to dress the car up to look like an animal. Race that thing out into the living room and let the mayhem begin!

Tennis ball launcher. Here's another one that the dog in the family will appreciate. With one of these devices, you can whip a tennis ball hundreds of feet with minimal effort. Your dog will love this, and they're gonna get completely tuckered out from using it! Plus, you'll have a blast slingshotting tennis balls.

There are so many options for getting your pet a cool gift this Christmas. Being creative about it is half the fun!

Harley Benjamin

After a hard day of playing, Harley is ready for a nap. Sydney shared these photos of his sometimes hyper Harley Benjamin. Sydney says, "He is very hyper at times, but loves to give kisses and snuggle with you while you sleep." Well, Sydney, he looks like he will be ready for more romping after this nap. I can see why you and your family would spoil Harley!

Bozo and Munk-Munk Revisited

Thanks to Kristine from Ohio for these awesome Puggle pictures! The two dogs pictured here are named Bozo and Munk-Munk. Sweet names, Kristine!

Spicy Cinnamon

This puggle is now eleven months old and has filled Caroline's life with sugar and spice and everything nice. Here Cinnamon is 7 or 8 months old and is already showing her personality!

Caroline says about Cinnamon: "She's a very inquisitive dog, and chews on almost everything. Bones, shoes, brushes, chairs." As a puggle owner, Caroline, I certainly can relate to that! My puggle loves her chew toys and whenever we travel, I have to pack her toys. Thank you, Cinnamon and Caroline, for sharing!

Bozo and Munk-Munk Today

We visited with Bozo and Munk-Munk from Ohio back in 2008. Here at All About Puggles we wondered, 'Where are they today, Kristine, and how are they doing?' Well, wonder no more, everyone, because Kristine sent this recent picture of Bozo and Munk-Munk having fun in Ohio. That puggle on the chair looks like she's sitting pretty. Thanks Kristine for the update.

Alli is All That!

What wonderful companions Puggles can be and in these photos, you can see how much fun they can be, too. Steven wrote in recently about his Puggle, Alli, who is about 13 years old but from this photo (looking a little like Harriet Potter) she could pass for three years old.

Steven had this to say about his Puggle companion, Alli:

"...she is very affectionate, agreeable and loyal member of our family. She loves to cuddle up with us under a blanket and relax."

Steven goes on to say about Alli:

"She even likes to sit up on the couch or lie on her back." Well Steven, it appears that Alli is certainly happy to be in your company! Puggles are such wonderful companions and as you can see with Alli, she can be All That! Thanks so much, Steven and Alli for sharing some of your photos!

Cooper in the Pumpkin Patch!

Thanks Paige for the photos and information about your friendly, eager Puggle! I bet Cooper loved romping through the Vermont pumpkin patch! Heres a bit of what Paige wrote about Cooper recently to share with other Puggle owners:





"Last fall, when he was only about 15 weeks old he went on a foliage trip with me and my friends and picked out his own pumpkin which he started to run to the farm stand like he was going to buy it himself.





He makes me laugh each and every day, and I can't imagine my life without Cooper."

Tyson and Barkley

Banker 2727 wrote to us, http://www.allaboutpuggles.com/ , and sent in a pic of these two adorable puggles, Tyson and Barkley. Banker 2727 says, "We've had Tyson since he was 8 weeks old but we just adopted Barkley as a rescue... Life so far is great... ;)" How wonderful for Barkley that he was rescued and how wonderful for Tyson that he has a playmate! Happy New Year to you all, too!

Poison in Puggles?!

Many people don't understand how many common household items might be dangerous to their pets. Alcohol, some decorative palm plants, holiday decorations like mistletoe, and even vitamins can be potentially fatal to our four-legged family members! Even more dangerous are many cleaning products, weed-killers, and "rodenticides" (commonly known as rat poison).

If your puggle ingests any of these potentially fatal household items, or any time they exhibit a complete and immediate loss of bowel control (which might suggest an unseen poisoning), you can induce vomiting safely with a small dose of everyday Hydrogen Peroxide (commonly kept in first aid kits).*

Hydrogen Peroxide (3% solution) can be found at your local drugstore and is the safest way to induce vomiting at home. This is the first step to help remove potentially harmful substances from your puggle's stomach. While ipecac is often used to induce vomiting in both adults and children, this is not a reliable way of getting a pet to vomit. Other suggestions such as salt or mustard are not only unreliable, but can be potentially harmful. These common "remedies" can have very harmful side-effects like sodium poisoning, and they can even cause cardiac arrhythmias!

Hydrogen Peroxide, on the other hand, is typically quite successful in causing pets to vomit, and is completely safe for your puggle (after it's done fizzing in your pet's stomach, it breaks down into its parts - water and oxygen!). It usually takes about 10-15 minutes before your puggle will vomit after drinking Hydrogen Peroxide. It also makes it easier if you feed it a little bit of moistened bread (either with milk or water).

Make sure that you give your puggle the right dose of Hydrogen Peroxide - a standard is 1 mL per pound, (here's a conversion chart, since we don't all have test tubes in our kitchens!). Also be sure never to force ANY liquid down into your puggle's mouth - they might accidentally inhale (or aspirate) it, which can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia.

*You should always contact your local or emergency vet before taking any action toward treating your pet medically. Some ingested chemicals can cause more damage if they are regurgitated, so only induce vomiting if your vet gives you the go-ahead.

Jagger - Have You Ever Seen Your Puggle Do This?

Kristine in Ohio has a puggle, Jagger. Many times when Kristine is talking to Jagger, Jagger will look at her and Jagger will tilt her head to one side, as if to say, "What are you talking about?" I'm sure other puggle owners have seen their darling puggles do this, too. I really think that this reaction is an indication of exceptional intelligence in this particular dog breed. What do others think? I would love to hear your opinions.

Sir Bentley - A Royal Puggle

Now, what makes the puggle, Sir Bentley, so royal? Could it be that this 5 month old male puggle is quite a mischievous pup? Or that Sir Bentley the puggle loves to be around people and especially loves any other kind of animal? Or that this puggle loves to swim and does many many tricks? Well, it is probably all of those things, but quite honestly, I don't think it even matters, especially when you see Sir Bentley the puggle asleep with Melanie's fiance!

Emmett, The Storybook Puggle

We have a new star puggle, Emmett, to feature today. These pictures of a 17-week-old puggle pup, Emmett, are from Jan, whose daughter named Emmett after a storybook character. Jan says: He is so sweet yet so wild sometimes. He likes playing games with me and demands alot of attention.

I am sure Emmett was the star of the story! Thanks, Jan for sending us your photos!

Charlie and Bella - Two Puggles - Too Cute!

Here are two best friends, puggles Charlie and Bella. Charlie is the lighter brown and Bella has more black on her. They are very playful and love to show off. Thanks, Chris and Jessica. Looks like Central Ohio is a puggle playland.

Jack the Puggle

Our old friend Jack the Puggle is all grown up, it seems. His mom sent us some great pictures from Jack's 3rd birthday. Also pictured is Jack's father, Tucker! Jack is the black one, Tucker is the fawn. Thanks to Jack, Tucker and family!

Puggles are Brave

Many dogs, Puggles included, are afraid of loud noises and creatures that they can't recognize (like, for example, me in a refrigerator box making growling noises).

But the interesting thing about Puggles is what they do after they encounter something scary. Generally, their curiosity combined with bravery gets the better of them and they decide to stick around and figure things out.

They're likely to go crazy during a thunderstorm, running back and forth in front of the window rather than cowering in the basement. This is an endearing trait, but at the same time it can sometimes get them in trouble, like when something is ACTUALLY dangerous. Like a car backing up, or a bear.
